Katja Herbers is a daughter of Vera Beths who plays the violin, and Werner Herbers on oboe. As a child Katja Herbers went with her mother on a trip through America in the chamber orchestra L'Archibudelli. Her mother was remarried to cellist Anner Bylsma and her father was remarried to costume designer Leonie Poliak, who introduced her stage. While growing up she had an au pair who came from Canada. She learned Dutch German English. Herbers studied at the Ignatius Gymnasium in Amsterdam. She completed her degree in psychology in the University of Amsterdam. When she was studying psychology, she also was a student at De Trap theatre school. She moved into New York and went to the HB Studio. After that, she was accepted to the Theaterschool in Amsterdam.
