The early achievements of Maureen FitzSimons in the performing arts, which we now know to be Maureen O'Hara, would certainly be a qualifier to the "child prodigy" category. For a young Irish girl with talented parents and extended family, these qualities were normal. Maureen joined this wonderful haven in Ranelagh, Ireland on August 17th of 1920. She was the daughter of Marguerita Lilburn FitzSimons, was a talented contralto. Charles FitzSimons owned the Shamrock Rovers soccer team in Ireland, and also ran a Dublin business. Maureen FitzSimons was the child of Charles FitzSimons. Peggy, Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons complete this wonderful family. Maureen was a star athlete and loved rough games. This interest was combined with the natural ability to perform. She was the recipient of nearly all Feis prizes for her own country's drama and theatre performances proved this. When she turned 14, she was accepted by the Abbey Theater accepted her and permitted her to pursue her passion for classical theatre and opera singing.
